Apology For Work Dress Code Violation

I apologize for violating the work dress code by wearing {item}. Honestly, it didn't occur to me that it was {too casual/etc.}, especially when the rule has been so inconsistently applied. Specifically, the dress code is not equitable in regard to gender, as evidenced by {example}.
