There is very little I can say today. "Sorry" doesn't cover it by a long shot. I have let down my fans, I have let down the {Team Name}, and I have let down myself. I have always worked hard and practiced long hours to become the kind of athlete I admired as a kid. My recent behavior doesn't reflect that.
From {date} to {date}, during a run of {number of games} games, I {behavior or drugs that constitute cheating}. I felt a tremendous pressure to perform well and to live up to expectations, but I didn't live up to anyone's expectations, especially my own. There's absolutely no excuse for my behavior.
I'm so terribly sorry to everyone I disappointed. I have tremendous love for the game and I hope I get the chance to prove my worth there once again.
